Random weekend notes

Yeah, I’m definitely going to lose interest in this with two months. I already can’t keep up with it even though I now tell people, “Oh, I can’t believe that just happened! I’m so going to blog about it.”

So instead of trying to piece together a great post that is eloquent and inspiring, I’ll just start writing about whatever odd bits I can remember of this past weekend.

Friday
- South Beach in Bethesda for a friend’s leaving her job for a new one happy hour/dinner. Mostly her co-workers but a two mutual friends were there too. The mojitos at South Beach were a good blend of sweet, sour and strong, but they didn’t serve the drink with a sugar cane. Now, I’ve never been to Miami or Cuba. But the cane seems more authentic so I’m always a little disappointed when I don’t one. So while tasty, it doesn’t receive my consideration for a favorite mojito.

- Leaving a party early and getting pumpkin cheesecake ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s is one quite possibly the best way to end a night.

Saturday
- Avoiding the frenzied, packed bars on the big party night of Halloween weekend is quite possibly the best way to enjoy the night. A friend and her boyfriend met up with me at Dan’s Cafe in Adams Morgan. We chatted and drank and saw plenty of good and bad costumes. But we stayed away from the crazies.

Sunday
- Waking up earlyish (8 a.m.) to meet up with a friend to cheer on other friends running the Marine Corps Marathon. We got a spot near mile 11 on 15th St. Thanks to text alerts from when the crossed mile 10, we had a good guess of when to start looking for them. I’m so proud of my roommate who ran and completed and is sore all over today. She showed a level of self-discipline and dedication that would be a challenge for me.

- Brunch at Beacon Bar and Grill. For just $24, all you can eat food and unlimited champagne and mimosas. After two mimosas, we just went straight to asking for champagne. Food was also tasty, especially the made-to-prepare omlettes. The service though — the refills on drinks — was a little slow.

- Halloween party for kickball. I played kickball in my costume, a naughty NAKID Scout. The bar was hopping with people drinking free beer. I was so tired though, that I just drank Diet Coke and water. Later on, I played some flip cup and did a few shots. Several of the kickball folks who ran in the race came out to the party. I am amazed they were able to keep up with the flip cup games and the shots.

Fun weekend filled with a mix of quirky activities and good times. Of course, I’ll still feeling so tired.

Yeah, big surprise about the slow service at the Beacon. I’m sure it’s to limit the amount of free booze that drunks like us order.

Pumpkin cheesecake and mojitos… they just go well together!
